Afrobeats Dance.

Virtual Program Presented by NACCA and AFIWI Groove School

Afrobeats Dance

Picture
NACCA and AFIWI Groove School are focused on inspiring, empowering and educating Black-identified youth so that they can step boldly into the future. We intend to continue to engage our youth by providing safe access to culturally affirming activities during COVID-19 restrictions.  This is an opportunity for them to connect to their roots and identity through African dance.  It offers a creative outlet while supporting physical activity and mental wellness that comes with feeling connected to ones community and peers.

NACCA is partnering with AFIWI Groove School to deliver Afiwi Roots & Revival which is funded by the Canadian Red Cross.  This is a FREE four week virtual introductory dance program starting October 5th, and it will give youth an opportunity to "try out" the program before committing to paid lessons (see below, Baby and Junior Groovers program).  Here is what to expect:

  • Week one: Afro Beats
  • Week two: Traditional West African Ghanaian Dance
  • Week three: Traditional West African Malinke Dance
  • Week four: Afro Caribbean Dance

The 45 - minute classes will take place on Monday and Wednesday evenings during two time slots.  Mondays are reserved for children under 12 years old and Wednesdays are reserved for older youth.

Monday Classes - 5:30PM- 6:15PM
Wednesday Classes - 6:30PM - 7:15PM

Please note that a separate class and link will be shared with parents who indicate an interest in djembe drumming.

Space is limited so register early.  Register or ask questions here.

Please indicate your child's full name, age and location for registration.  You will receive the zoom link for the lesson two days prior to the start of the program.
