King Charles III Coronation Medal Recipient (2024)
The Newmarket African Caribbean Canadian Association (NACCA) was founded in 2018 to foster opportunities, advance racial equity and cultivate belonging within the community. We proudly congratulate our founder, Jerisha Grant-Hall, on receiving the King Charles III Coronation Medal, an honour recognizing her significant contributions to Canada.
NACCA began as a vision to create spaces for Black youth to embrace their identity, history and culture while building a legacy of empowerment. Today, it has evolved into a registered charity and a vital hub for advocacy, programming and partnerships that uplift and unite the Black community. Jerisha’s advocacy is deeply rooted in her experiences as a Jamaican immigrant in Canada. From overcoming systemic biases in high school to addressing barriers in the workforce, her life’s work has been about championing equity and justice. Under her leadership, NACCA has launched programs addressing mental health, food security, scholarships for Black youth, mentorship and cultural pride while engaging governments and institutions to dismantle systemic racism. This medal represents the collective efforts of NACCA’s team, supporters and the broader community in building a more inclusive society. It was celebrated with two young special guests who were inspired by her journey and determination. A heartfelt thank you to MP Tony Van Bynen for the nomination, the volunteer selection committee, and everyone who has supported this journey. Together, we will continue to work toward lasting change. |
