Food Security.

African Black Caribbean (ABC) Community

My family and I love the fresh provisions of bi-weekly deliveries to us by beautiful souls. Thanks so much, NACCA" - Food Security Program Member, Newmarket

I can't begin to thank for what a blessing NACCA has been to my family. Thank you so much NACCA for the fresh fruits and veggies you have been sending to us every 2 weeks.  We have been struggling to keep up with our bills last 2 years. It has been really hard on us.

My eldest son was experiencing difficulties and I couldn't go to work for a while then my husband got sickly, he was off for 7 months and my mother-in-law was diagnosed with cancer and she lost her battle just before Christmas. It has been very tough.
So, you see, NACCA is our greatest help in food. We are very thankful for everything, and we thank them for everything."
- Food Security Program Member, Newmarket
The Newmarket African Caribbean Canadian Association's Food Security initiative was first funded by the Canadian Red Cross Society and aimed at assisting with the food needs of the African, Black, Caribbean (ABC) community whose household income have been negatively impacted by COVID-19 and based on an ongoing necessity.

Since August 2020, the organization pivoted to Increase access to food for over 35 families in Newmarket, Aurora and East Gwillimbury to relief poverty. With food support from the York Region Food Network, NACCA delivers fresh produce to African, Black and Caribbean residents. The organization also offers biweekly grocery gift cards of $100 each to families experiencing food insecurity. Food operations started following a Region-wide survey to community members and the results clearly identified the need for community food relief.

Eligibility
Members of the African Black and Caribbean community who are low income and experiencing a food need are encouraged to apply for the free bi-weekly delivery of food basket and grocery gift cards here. We are not currently accepting donations of food items.

Operations
The program is generally run by community volunteers who spend 1.5 hours every two weeks to make contactless delivery to individuals and families. We are currently exploring further funding opportunities as this program has reached maximum capacity. In keeping with NACCA’s purpose and activities, the organization has applied for further funding and awaiting approval of the application. NACCA will maintain control and direction of the activities using existing structures, resources and volunteers.
