Video - Documentary Children's Aid Society (CAS) Documentary on Black Families
20-minute documentary, which aired on OMNI TV, discusses the over representation of Black children and youth in the child welfare system, and in Toronto in particular.
The documentary features interviews with many professionals working with the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto in the area of race equity and with former youth in care, who talk about their own experiences in the child welfare system. After sharing data about the over representation of these children in care, the documentary discusses some of the initiatives the agency is leading to better support Black children and families, such as the “Soul Journey” program, the Kuponya project “Journey to Zero.”
